Societies

At Plymouth University UPSU societies are a major part of what we are about. They are here to meet your needs as students and for you to meet likeminded people in your chosen area whether that be an activity, hobby based or even just to try something new. All our societies here at UPSU are student led. Joining any one of the 100 plus societies we have on offer is a great way to make the most of your University experience and have an incredible time! We also have over 50 different SU sports clubs to choose from; each and every one is run and led by students for Plymouth University students. Clubs offer much more than just playing sport and UPSU sports clubs are committed to delivering an excellent sporting student experience by providing you with a wide range of opportunities to get involved in sport and activity, exploring new and exciting places, developing personal skills, celebrating sporting achievements, developing a sense of community and pride and also a chance to develop friendships for life. There is also the chance of representing Plymouth University on a National and Regional level. British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) offer you the opportunity to compete for Plymouth University on a Wednesday afternoon in a range of sports.

Disability Assist (DAS) - is part of PU’s Learning Support and Wellbeing department and is here to help with your academic support if you have a disability. If you're a prospective or current student, we are here to assist! A disability can be dyslexia, specific learning difficulties, mental health conditions, autism or another long term health condition. Services we offer our students are: • Individual appointments with a Disability Advisor • Guidance on disclosing a disability. • Advice regarding diagnosis. • A student support document (SSD) reflecting your study requirements and modifications in assessments. Modular structure

In your first year, you’ll get a grounding in the digital media, software, technologies and production techniques needed throughout the course. You’ll also gain a critical understanding of the theory behind digital media and the social, cultural and industrial contexts in which they operate. You’ll be introduced to contemporary graphic and motion graphic tools, web design and web programming technologies, along with the coding skills and creative design strategies that underpin them. In your second year, you’ll build on your creative profile and improve your technical and critical skills. If you plan to choose the placement year, you’ll get a chance to build your CV and portfolio. You’ll be introduced to industrial strength project management and planning. In your final year, you’ll focus on your own particular areas of interest. You'll also undertake a final year dissertation on a topic of your choice, with the guidance of your personal supervisor.

Our graduates are now in the workplace, making a difference. Many enjoy careers as mobile app developers, animators, games developers, social media app designers, web and interactive designers/producers, software artists, new media consultants, studio managers and researchers. DAT employability statistics show that 85% of graduates find a job within a year in the field in which they have been studying.
