BSc Gemmology and Jewellery Studies is the only one of its kind in the world, providing the highest level of professionally-recognised gemmological skills. This unique course is partnered with The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A), the world’s longest established gemmological teaching organisation. In addition to a degree qualification you’ll also achieve the Gem-A internationally recognised Gemmology Diploma and Diamond Diploma professional qualifications. Based in the heart of Birmingham’s thriving Jewellery Quarter, you’ll benefit from expertise and facilities as you explore diamonds, precious gems, and a sound knowledge of the jewellery industry.

Why study this course

You will graduate with the highest level of professionally recognised gemmological skills, an in-depth knowledge of an extensive range of gemstones, and a sound working knowledge of the jewellery industry. There are career opportunities for graduates in organisations such as wholesale and retail buyers of coloured gemstones and diamonds, valuers, auction houses, jewellery designers, manufacturers and retailers. This course is delivered at the School of Jewellery’s Gemmology Department, based at a new purpose-built facility at the Assay Office in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. The Assay Office, Birmingham is a centre of expert opinion, testing and hallmarking of precious metals and is an exciting partnership with the School of Jewellery, providing opportunities for employment and research within the industry.
